Man Utd 3  – Liverpool 2, 2010/201119/09/2010

We’ll start off with a closely contested thriller which included a Dimitar Berbatov Hat-Trick, which at the time was the first scored in this Premier League fixture. Berbatov put United two goals in front with a goal in each half. Steven Gerrard dragged Liverpool back level with two goals himself. The clash asked for a grandstand finish which Berbatov duly obliged as he rose the highest in front of the Stretford End delivering the winning goal. Maybe we’ll see a 5 goal thriller this weekend!

Man Utd 1 – Liverpool 4, 2008/200922/03/09

Both teams were involved in a titanic tussle for the Premier League title. One more win for United and they would move level with Liverpool in the amount of League titles won while Liverpool had the chance to move clear. United sat themselves top of the table at this point in the season and a win at home would all but seal the league title. United started the match well as they took the lead through a Ronaldo penalty, but that is when Liverpool came back swinging and lead 2-1 before the break. Nemanja Vidic was sent off in the 2nd half only to help Liverpool romp to a famous 4-1 victory. It was a day of tears for the Red Devils!

Man Utd 3 Liverpool 0, 2014/20154/12/2014

While this appears to be a straightforward match on the surface, it was anything but. Manchester United won by 3 goals to nil, but with David de Gea picking up the Man Of the Match award it is obvious that this was a match full of chances. Goals from Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie sealed the victory for United. Liverpool left Old Trafford that day totally bemused at how the game did not end at least 3-3.

Man Utd 0 Liverpool 3, 2013/201416/03/2014

The season after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement was a long and arduous one for United fans, furthermore, it was hammered home as Liverpool came to town and completely outplayed their rivals at home. David Moyes already seemed like a dead man walking at this stage of the season and Liverpool took full advantage with goals from Steven Gerrard (2) and Luis Suarez.

Man Utd 1 Liverpool 0, 2005/200622/01/2006

The last match on the list probably wasn’t the best game you’ll see between these two sides, but it’s on this list because it highlights that despite the number of accolades, trophies and money these players earn throughout their careers, Manchester United vs Liverpool will always be the biggest game in England. This is shown through the passionate celebration of Gary Neville after the late Rio Ferdinand winner. No one has kissed a badge like that since!
