8 Memorable Premier League Boxing Day Fixtures

While the rest of Europe has winter off, there is no rest for the Premier League and these festive fixtures have always produced some fantastic matches and shock results. We delve into the 90’s for our first selection and it is between two teams currently in the Premier League. These two teams faced each other the previous year on Boxing day with Everton winning 4-0. We’re skipping into the noughties with this one as Arsenal put on a Christmas masterclass to beat Leicester 6-1. Who would have thought they would one day win the Premier League.

4) West Brom 0 Liverpool 5 – 2004/05

John Arne Riise scored twice as Liverpool defeated 10 man West Brom on this festive fixture.

5) Wigan 4 Manchester City 3 – 2005/06

Before they were backed by the Abu Dhabi family, Manchester City came unstuck against Wigan in a thrilling 4-3 encounter at the DW Stadium.

6) Chelsea 4 Aston Villa 4 – 2007/08

Possibly the greatest Boxing day match in history. No words are needed to describe this match but you can enjoy the highlights here

7) Hull City 2 Manchester United 3 – 2013/14

David Moyes didn’t have many good days during his time in charge at Old Trafford but he did preside over a Christmas Cracker. His team were two goals down early on but they managed to fight back to claim a 3-2 victory.

8) Southampton 4 Arsenal 0 – 2015/16

The final match in our list comes from last season as Southampton produced one of the shock performances of the season as they thoroughly outclassed Arsenal to win 4-0 at St Mary’s.
